KLINGER Portugal ensures safe valves for gas distribution company

VALVES

One of the largest gas and fuel distribution companies entrusted KLINGER Portugal with an ambitious project. What did the project consist of? To create a plan for the renewal of the installed valves network, ensuring greater safety and efficiency in distribution.

The challenge arose from a demanding scenario. The existing ball valves, dating back to the 1990s, made their maintenance and replacement of wear parts increasingly difficult. In addition to natural wear, some components were custom-made using special materials, which are now difficult to source in today’s market.

Faced with this scenario, the company decided to carry out a study for the implementation of a renewal plan for the valve network, opting for a high-quality manufacturer that could guarantee continuous updates and maintenance without setbacks. This is where KLINGER Portugal’s expertise came into play.

TECHNICAL STUDY:

The initial request was clear: replace part of the valve network while preserving the existing installation space, anchoring points, and valve height.
Based on these objectives, KLINGER carried out a thorough technical survey, comparing dimensions, specifications, and operating requirements. Although some technical discrepancies arose, the primary objective at this stage was to produce a reference budget that could be approved by the client, thus making the modification project feasible.

IMPLEMENTATION:

After technical and budgetary analysis and approval, the first phase of implementation was initiated.

To ensure perfect integration, it was necessary to:
» Develop complete documentation and technical drawings;
» Guarantee the ideal and precise fit to the piping and installation locations;
» Preserve existing constraints;
» Maintain safety and performance requirements.

THE FUTURE

The defined strategy foresees that the remaining valves will be replaced in phases, as the old ones require maintenance. This way, KLINGER ensures continuity of maintenance and operations, reduces the risk of unexpected failures, and standardizes the system, simplifying future interventions.

This procedure not only contributed to the modernization of a critical infrastructure but also ensured that the client is prepared to meet operational requirements with a safe, reliable, and efficient system.
