They are mainly used in conjunction with globe and angle valves in piping systems where the direction of flow changes frequently. Piston check valves have a dash-pot consisting of a piston and a cylinder, which exerts a cushioning effect during operation. These valves allow flow in one direction and prevent flow reversal due to back pressure.<br>They provide a better pressure drop in pipelines.
